Our journey began with a simple mission: to meet the growing need for compassionate, effective support for animals in our community. At the heart of that mission is our founder, Veronica, whose dedication to helping animals started when she was just a little girl—caring for animals in her neighborhood and finding ways to make a difference wherever she could.
That passion followed her around the world. While studying abroad, Veronica became deeply involved in rescuing island dogs—known as “potcakes”—helping bring them to the United States to find safe, loving homes. After moving to Pennsylvania, she continued her work rescuing island dogs while expanding her efforts across Southern Pennsylvania.
As her impact grew, so did the need. What started as personal commitment quickly became something bigger—so much so that even her husband recognized the need to turn that passion into a formal organization (and maybe protect his bank account along the way). From that moment, Scallywags Animal Rescue was born.
Today, we’ve grown into a dedicated nonprofit making a difference both locally and around the world—powered by community support and driven by the same passion that started it all.
Our team is made up of committed volunteers who don’t just care—they act. We’re boots-on-the-ground, making real change for animals in our community every day. If you’re ready to make a difference, head over to our contact page and get involved.
At Scallywags Animal Rescue, our mission is simple: make the biggest impact possible for animals—locally and globally. Fueled by dedicated volunteers and a strong community, we take action that creates real, lasting change.
